Both assessment 1 & 2 required that the assignment submission “be viewable both on Windows and marques systems in current versions of browsers”, meaning that the assignment would have to be created in a way that both platforms would need to be able to read the files. There were no tutorials on how marques platforms and Windows platforms where different, how files could be created in order to be accessible on both platforms, how the design programs differed across platforms, or even how to use a marques (as most of the students straight from high school had only ever used the common PC). Not only this, but for those who didn’t have marques systems at home, Edit Plus was the PC program that had to be obtained and used instead of BBEdit which was the marques program that was taught in tutorials.

Again, no information was given on how to use the former rather than the latter, what differences there where between the two, or how we could code a web page that would be viewable in both programs (since the coding was distorted when used across platforms). Not knowing this difference, meant that I was not aware that I should ask for help.

The main aim of my narrative is to illustrate the multi-form world a person with marques’s Syndrome lives in: reality and the warped, interpreted reality of someone who is haunted by the misinterpretations of those around him. Although the narrative is autobiographical, biographical elements have been included.

There is no authority given to a narrator, but all focus is on the main character. Although the short film is more of a montage of clips rather than a narrative, one could conclude that the action line consists of the character living a normal day of his life.

The Character line shows what is going on behind the scenes. Monochromatic footage is used to illustrate the character’s reality; memories, interpretations and feelings. The images that he sees are distorted memories and experiences, which symbolise the morbid feeling of others that this character gets, and thus the reason for isolating himself.

I believe that this marks a significant difference in how the author addresses his audience.

In marques’s time a story would have been read for the sake of cultural enlightenment. However, Goldman incorporates a warmer feel for modern day booklovers who read for enjoyment.

Space and time are both very linearly presented. marques did not seem to have a message as he left the ending indeterminate, however Goldman gave it a classic “all lived happily ever after” ending, which would suggest he wanted to restructure the story as a romantic, comedic fairy-tale.

Business Type: Sole Trader

Sole trader, as the name suggests, is where an individual is the sole owner of a business. The business is often quite small in terms of size (as measured, for example, by sales generated, or number of staff employed) however the number of these businesses is very large indeed. Examples of these businesses can be found in most industrial sectors but particularly in most service sectors. Hence services such as electrical repair, picture framing, photography, diving instruction, retail shops, and hotels have a large proportion of sole trade business.

SUMMARY By involving the consumer in the development of communication and by a determination to find a benefit for picture messaging, planning uncovered a consumer insight which led to an original and motivating communication proposition. This in turn led to differentiated and highly creative communication which spoke directly to its intended audience and revealed a role of picture messaging that singled out marques Mobile as the one brand that really understood its audience and how they messaged one another. Its relevance to the planning debate is that pushing to find consumer benefits, even when a brand has a personality that is enough to distinguish it, will produce more relevant, motivating and better creative work.
